Job description | Naval Architect Yacht Building

As a Naval Architect, you have an all-around naval architectural responsibility in the full design engineering cycle of top-end Mega Yachts. As part of the Naval Architecture department, you will be involved in the initial stage of the project. You will focus on performing weight, stability, and propulsion calculations, as your main task will be to determine whether it is feasible to build the vessel based on the specifications received from the designers, and sometimes provide input for the feasibility of the concept design. You will be cooperating closely with internal and external CFD specialists, FEM-Engineers, Marine Engineers, and Lines Plan Engineers to take the project into the basic design.

Within the Naval Architecture discipline you will encounter weight & stability control, inclination test, hydrodynamics & hull shape optimization, propulsion, tank layout, drive axle & appendages, transport, sea trial & delivery, in addition also regulations such as draft marks & watertight integrity, fire safety & escape routes and noise & vibrations. Furthermore, your tasks include:

  • Delivering a sound design from concept to sea-trials
  • Project-based approach to solving design issues
  • Integrating new technologies into the yacht design
  • Executing a wide range of naval architectural calculations
  • Communicating with internal Project Managers and Principal Engineers, as well as with yards and subcontractors

Job requirements | Naval Architect Yacht Building

  • BSc. or MSc. in Naval Architecture
  • +5 years of experience in an all-round Naval Architectural role within Yacht Building or Shipbuilding
  • Some experience in the full design engineering cycle, from concept, through basic and detail to construction, sea trials, and delivery
  • Solid knowledge of hydromechanics, stability, vessel safety, and applicable rules & regulations
  • Strong solution-driven mindset with a passion to apply new technologies
  • Good organizational awareness and capable of multidisciplinary thinking
  • Straightforward and speaking your mind
  • Excellent English communication skills in writing and speaking
  • EU-citizenship is required
